Really fun news this morning, as we learned that the Cubs will start the 2025 season in Tokyo, Japan!
According to Bob Nightengale, the Cubs and Dodgers have both been privately informed that they will face off in Tokyo as the 2025 season opener.
Regarding the games to follow, he says the Cubs will then travel back to Arizona and “begin their domestic season on the West Coast before heading home to Chicago.”
Focusing on that last section for a second, I love this so much. First off, it gets a dreaded west coast trip out of the way rather quickly. West Coast games are no fun due to starting so late at night, so this gets a few of them done before too far into the season. This also means that the official home opener (who is home for the Tokyo game is unknown) will most likely be a few weeks into April. Spring in Chicago can get extremely cold, clearly. I am headed to the Home Opener, which is on April 1st this year. As of me typing this, the forecast is around 43 degrees with rain. As it gets colder that evening, it’ll turn into snow. Clearly this is no fun, and players nor fans enjoy this weather. If the Cubs are able to get a road trip out of the way to begin the season every year, I’d be all for it. Clearly baseball at Wrigley Field is always fun, but the beautiful Chicago summer weather helps!!
Tokyo is the best city I’ve ever been to, and I highly recommend everyone to visit there if able. If it happens to be at the same time as the Cubs game, that will make it even better!
